Threefold Anguish
Acrylic

by Gigi Dequanne

Japan not only suffered an earthquake, but was then battered by a tsunami, and is now being impacted by radiation.
It’s difficult to ignore such adversity.
The overall feeling of this painting after finishing it was very somber.
With your help, I want to convert it, reflecting instead a feeling of hope and courage.
I know that cranes are a very important symbol in Japanese culture, and that 1000 folded origami cranes will grant a person their wish.
As a symbol of this, for every $1 donation, I will add a crane to this canvas.
My hope is to reach $1,000. The funds will be sent to the Japanese Red Cross Organisation to help with relief efforts.
Here is an explanation of the 'before' painting:

Here is a draft sketch for the inclusion of the cranes:

My plan is to paint the 1,000 cranes, in the form of one large crane...embracing the symbol of Japan.

Your donation will help to send aid to this cause.
Thank you very much.

The cranes have started to arrive!!
